ASUS Republic of Gamers is getting a new family member in the form of a new motherboard i.e. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula board. ASUS ROG Formula motherboards have repeated over the years and have 8 emphases in the series. Idealizing the previous members of the family and using latest technology and concept to perfect the design and bring some real time hardcore gaming performance. The latest in the series will use Z 170 series chipset and latest PCH from Intel which means it’s aimed at Intel’s Skylake(6th Generation) processors.
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula Design
The ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula has unique and epic design perfect for gamers and PC Enthusiasts. Like the previous members of the family, the PCB (printed circuit board) is finished with charcoal black and silver aluminum finish for the Intel PCH (platform controller hub). Since the launch of Maximus VI Formula all the boards came with a protective shield and same goes for the Maximus VII Formula. The concept was first seen in ASUS Sabertooth series motherboard which featured those tough protective shield. It’s also know as the ROG Armor.
Apart from the design ASUS ROG has introduced new RGB LED’s color scheme for it’s newest hardware component in the lineup. The reason is that from the past years ASUS ROG has come up with spectacular and new design and color schemes but almost every hardware manufacturer has copied them. For example, the Red and Black color scheme was first introduced by ASUS ROG series which was very demanding and looked appealing but was also copied by other vendors. So ASUS has to make its move and it did by introducing this new concept of RGB LED’s across motherboard which can emit different colors allowing PC user to customize it according to their color of choice.
Aside from all the design details, there is also one more thing which caught our eye i.e. if you look closely at VRM/MOSFETs section you’ll find that Maximus VIII Formula is also equipped with a high-end heat sink which allows hybrid cooling. You can clearly see the EK Water Blocks logo on the heat sink, who are famous for building and designing water cooling solution for PC components such as motherboards, graphics cards and processors.
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula Specifications
As mentioned before the ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula will use Z 170 series chipset which means it will be equipped with LGA 1151 socket for Intel’s Skylake 6th Gen processors. ROG motherboards are famous for great overclocking performance which goes same for this newest piece of hardware. It will come with muscular VRM which will enable overclockers to take their overclocking experience to the new level. Same as ever the motherboard will be powered by 24-Pin ATX connector and an 8-Pin connector for the CPU. Given the chipset name the board will feature 4 DIMM slots which will run DDR4 memory which you can expand up to 64GB. As for the expansion slots we are looking at three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 and three PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots. The audio is powered by SupremeFX 2015 chip which is a high-end audio solution. For storage we have 8 SATA III ports which run at 6 GB/sec, also we have two SATA Express ports and one NVMe SSD connector.
In the end, we have the I/O Connectors which includes 6 USB 3.0 ports, LAN port, Wi-Fi antenna connector, PS/2 port, ROG connect, reset switch, USB 3.1 Type-C port, 7.1 channel audio jack, SPDIF, HDMI and DP 1.2a ports for display.
The motherboard has not hit the market yet and the price point is not yet known, but we know that it’s going to replace the previous Maximus VII Formula so the price point will be around $370 – $390.
