Why is there a big delay for Mass Effect Andromeda?
If you are one of those people who was eagerly waiting for the release of Mass Effect Andromeda in 2016 then I understand your disappointment. I would not blame fans who want to take blow torches to Bioware and burn Casey Hudson for THAT ending (yes I just went there). Secondly burn them for pushing the release date further to not just 2 months 6 months but to a WHOLE YEAR DELAY.
Now I understand it is not like we knew a lot about the game. Bioware was more than tight lipped about this installment. Fans interpreted the trailer and information so much that it almost seemed unreal. To make things worse recently it was announced that the lead editor of the game departed. To anyone who is aware of game delays that means that A LOT is going to change. The game, be it unfinished will now have another lead writer who will edit the story to their satisfaction. As long as it is true to the legacy I can live with this change because what is Mass Effect without a gripping and addictive storyline. Obviously looking at the previous Mass Effect Trilogy the dedication to expanding the game’s universe cannot be questioned. It was detailed later that the planets explored will be “four times bigger” especially considering the return of the Mako (a vehicle introduced in the first game). That can only mean that exploration will play a huge part rather than collecting useless mineral resources by sending probes to planets. At the same time, I believe I can say that none of us want the endless roaming, gravity and game physics defying laws that were present in the original Mako.
The replacement for the main protagonist of the previous games Commander Shephard, is called ‘Pathfinder’. Is the character as immersive and personal as the previous ones? Only time can tell. Expectations for more fascinating stories for the other races grows more and more for good reasons. The universe established seems almost infinite and the richness of each race and uniqueness of characters justifies the craving of more depth. It won’t be surprise if DLC’s would be a pathway to that but if they are as intriguing as The Witcher 3 paid DLC then I am sure it will be worth the money. A Reddit leak last year showed a potential timeline in which the Pathfinder will explore the planets.
What can Bioware do to improve?
At the moment only a mere ten percent of information is awarded to the fans although most of it being self-analyzed. All this speculation and intrigue can be beneficial for the franchise by keeping them in the dark. The backlash and criticism can be eliminated by giving the staff freedom to work. This does not mean that radical changes, damaging the experience and altering the already established legacy, will be appreciated. On behalf of Mass Effect fans everywhere we would like to make a request. ‘The in charge of the game that is Bioware, Mr. Case Hudson and all staff members to ensure and preserve the heritage of this game’. Days have been spent playing the previous games with pure dedication. Every now and then I am sure people play the games again and feel exactly the same way they did the first time. The hope should live up to the anticipation of the game. Till then fans can enjoy the trailer and “follow the breadcrumbs of news” laid by Bioware till the actual release of the game.
