Ever since RX 480 and GTX 1060 came out there has been an argument present among gamers or more like AMD and NVIDIA fans that which card is better? The NVIDIA fans keep bragging about how the GTX 1060 is better than RX 480 in DirectX 11 and driver support. Whereas the AMD fans have defended the RX 480 under the shadow of DirectX 12, that it is the future of Gaming and AMD beats NVIDIA in DX12 and not to forget more VRAM. Both the sides have some legit points.

Both the cards came out in Q2 2016 and now we are in 2017. During this course, both AMD and NVIDIA have released different drivers and software for their graphics card. Example Radeon Relive. And alongside with that there also have been released a few games that using both DX11 and DX12 which will help us determine which one is better. To settle this argument we will go through our test benches which will determine the power of both the graphics card.

Our Test Setup

To ensure the full potential of both the graphics card we will be using high-end gaming setup, so that no detail is missed. Aside from that, we will only be testing the 8GB RX 480 model and 6GB GTX 1060 model. The Our test setup includes

As you can see in most of our benchmakrs the RX 480 8GB was the true winner whereas in few titles the GTX 1060 took the lead. Though these were all DX11 benches. Even on our DX12 becnhes RX 480 was the clear winner except in one game i.e. Rise ot the Tomb Raider where GTX 1060 took the lead.

If you put everything together the AMD Radeon RX 480 is the clear winner and more future proof due to the fact it has more VRAM and better DX12 performance.

Winner = AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB
